COMMITMENT TO THE ENVIRONMENT

In Biopolis we are aware of an adequate environmental management, so we have recently implemented an environmental management system based on the UNE-EN-ISO 14001: 2015 standard.

Our commitment to the environment covers all aspects of the life cycle of the R & D products and services we offer, from design to the end of its shelf life.

According to the results of the internal and external analysis carried out, our company has defined the following environmental objectives and targets, which will be evaluated during the year 2017:

  • Achieve more efficient production processes from an energetic point of view.
  • Reduce the consumption of paper and plastic.
  • Improve waste segregation.

ACHIEVEMENTS OF GOALS FOR 2017

  • Making production processes more efficient:
    • A 36% reduction in standardised water consumption has been achieved.
    • Standardised ammonia consumption has been reduced by more than 75%.
    • Standard consumption of natural gas has been reduced by 23%.
    • Standardized use of reagents and raw materials in production has fallen by 38%.
    • Unfortunately, it has not been possible to reduce standardized electricity consumption (it has increased by 17%).
  • Reduction of normalized plastic consumption from more than 45%, which means a reduction of plastic consumption of more than 500 kg.
  • Improved separation of hazardous waste. Adequate waste collection points have been provided to ensure adequate segregation of the waste generated and have been satisfactorily verified during the year.

Goals for 2018

  • The cooling water line used in production is going to be modify optimize the electricity consumption. The objective is to reduce it by, at least 2% during 2018.
  • The organisation is implementing the use of recycled paper in order to reduce the sensitivity of this environmental aspect.
  • Following an internal suggestion, all AA and AAA batteries used in the organisation will be replaced by rechargeable batteries, thereby substantially reducing the generation of hazardous waste arising from their use.
